Question ID: 261712
I have a 1992 Bonneville SE. The main bearing in the engine is gone,
and at this point, doing an engine rebuild will cost more than buying
a used engine. The engine I have currently, is a 1992 3.8L V6
non-supercharged 3800 series VIN "L". I know from research that this
engine is made by Buick. My research has also found that same engine
series to be in the Buick LaSabre, and Olds 88 Royale. My question is,
can I simply take an engine from a 1992 LaSabre or 88 Royale, and put
it right into my Bonneville, because they are essentially the same
car, or will there be problems. If so what? Also, are there any other
models of the 3.8L engines, possibly older models, which will match up
perfectly to a 92 Bonneville SE, and if so, what model of car are they
from? Please list ALL possible engine swaps/years that won't require
alterations. Please reference websites/certifications
Thanks
Cindy

Bonnevillebabe,

Many Researchers will pass by a question that requires a list of "all"
of something. A request such as "Please list ALL possible engine
swaps/years that won't require alterations" strikes dismay into a
Researcher's heart, since it is difficult ever to guarantee that all
of anything has been found.

Assuming that information on this subject can be found, would a list
of SOME possible engine swaps be acceptable?

Yes , a list of some possible engine swaps would be acceptable,
providing that referneces are listed.
