Yes, I need more software! I'm looking for an inexpensive
Windows-based Digital Rights Management (DRM) application that will
restrict a PDF to a single machine (if it's copied to another one, it
will require a new authorization). Please do not confuse this with
Acrobat's built-in security, which simply prevents a document from
being opened or modified.
Adobe's Content Management Server will do this, but at $3000 - $5000, it's
way too much for us. There is a very good application called FileOpen
Personal Publisher (see www.fileopen.com) that does almost everything
I need, except I have a special requirement for automation. To get an
unlock code for PP, either the user has to send an e-mail to the
distributor who manually generates a code and e-mails it back, or the
user gets the code from FileOpen's management server
(www.rightserver.com). Unfortunately, the client I need this for
restricts Web access of their employees, and I don't like the idea of
doing anything manually.
Requirements:
* Software must run under Windows.
* Must work on PDFs created in Acrobat 5 or 6.
* Must support document restrictions (modification, content
extraction, etc.).
* Must have an automated way of generating unlock codes that does not
involve Web access. Some possibilities are: generating them with an e-mail
auto responder (FileOpen said they have this in development, but it
isn't ready, yet) or by generating codes in advance and distributing
them with the PDFs.
* I'd prefer that the solution not involve downloading and installing
a separate "reader" application, like you have to do with ebooks.com.
* I'd like the price not to be higher than $400. |
