Hi fred00,

Ahhh... now you're bringing back memories for me! One of my favorite
places in the world would be Athens Greece and the Greek Islands.
I've found locations for you to fresh water lake fish in or around
Athens. While making your inquiries either on the phone prior to your
visit, or once you arrive in Athens be sure to ask for recommendations
of other locations. The 'locals' can provide you with a lot more
information than what's available on the internet! :)

For starters, I'd like you to browse around the site: A Travel Guide
to Greece by Matt Barrett
http://www.greektravel.com/

"Hi. My name is Matt Barrett . I have been traveling or living in
Greece since 1968 and I have been compiling information that I think
is helpful to travelers to Greece and the Greek islands. I have
created my Greece Travel Guide to help you avoid some of the problems
people have while traveling in Greece and also to share some of my
accumulated knowledge of the country. If you have specific questions
please feel free to write me or send me e-mail: greecetravel1@aol.com"

If you'd like a copy of my GREECE TRAVEL NEWSLETTER, my GREEK ISLAND
SYNOPSIS, or have any questions about Greece send an e-mail request to

ATHENS SURVIVAL GUIDE

"Athens is a Wonderful City when you get to know it. But most
guidebooks are as confusing as Athens seems to be for those unfamiliar
with it. Not my Athens Survival Guide. My Athens Guide makes the city
and surrounding areas simple and enjoyable by following my steps and
just doing what I do. Includes restaurant reviews, hotels, archaeology
sites, nightlife and more. Visit my Athens Survival Guide at
www.athensguide.com
You can print out the whole thing and take it to Greece. It is the
only Guidebook you will need and it is free!"

[edit]

"IMPORTANT! Probably the most important discovery I made during my
visits to Greece concerns booking hotels, Greek island cruises and
tours. While common sense would dictate that bypassing the travel
agent and booking directly one would save on the commission this is
actually not true in Greece. What I discovered was that the prices the
Greek travel agencies had were in many cases at least 15% cheaper then
the rates that I got directly from the hotels."

Greece By Car - George the Famous Taxi Driver (see photo!)

"Athens best Taxi driver is George Kokkotos of V.I.P. Taxi Service.
Having your own air-conditioned personal taxi in Athens is like having
your own chauffer, translator and guide for a fraction of the cost.
George speaks perfect English and knows all there is to know about
Athens. It's a great way to see the real Greece. I recommend him for
excursions such as Delphi, Meteora, Naphlion, Corinth, Sounion,
Mycenae, Olympia, Epidavros or anywhere on the mainland. (He says he
will go to the islands too.) If you are in a group of three or more
people it is cheaper to use George then to go on the guided tour bus,
and more fun since he will be more flexible. George knows the country
and will help you find many bargains and hidden places not on most
tourist itineraries. He can also take you on a tour of Athens
nightlife. If you are in Athens and need a car at your disposal for
business or pleasure, George is at your service. One of the few taxi
drivers in Greece who does not smoke. For sightseeing, guided tours,
excursions all over Greece, or even a day of golf, call or FAX George.
Also for transfers*, he will meet you at the airport when you arrive
and take you to your hotel, to and from cruise ships, ferry boats etc.
Oh yes...George has a brand new Mercedes and also a Mercedes Limo for
VIPs and larger groups!

He also provides a car seat for infants.

For more info see his website at www.greecetravel.com/taxi or e-mail

* Transfers: This is when you hire a taxi or driver to meet you at the
airport(or to the airport, ferrry, cruise ship etc). He is there even
if your plane is delayed, knows where you are going and takes you
there for a previously agreed upon price and makes sure you check in
without a problem. I always use transfers because arriving in a
foreign city is disorienting enough, it's nice to know you can get to
your hotel without a hassle. It's like having a friend meet you at the
airport. With the new airport at Spata over an hour out of Athens it
makes even more sense to use George."

Angistri
http://www.magicaljourneys.com/Islands/angistri.html

"Angistri is a small island near Aegina with beautiful sandy beaches
and a devoted following. Angistri is famous for being one of the first
places in Greece to experiment with naturalism, (or in plain English
it was one of the first islands to have a nudist beach).

Angistri is a small island near Aegina with beautiful sandy beaches
and a devoted following.

There are some nice tavernas and the famous Agistriclub Hotel is a
favorite for people who have made a career of visiting Greece every
summer. Angistri is an excellent place to stay and still be able to
zip into Athens to see the Acropolis. The far side of the island is
mostly agricultural and in the village of Limineria, named after it's
lake, the inhabitants devote themselves mostly to farming and fishing.
These islands near Athens are also a good choice for the winter months
when weather is unpredictable and you don't want to be too far from
Athens."

[edit]

"He would get a far-away look in his eyes as he spoke of the white
sandy beaches and quiet tavernas with fresh fish so cheap it was
almost free."

[edit]

"Something that no guidebook mentions is that there is a lake there at
Liminaria."

Greece Home Vacation Rental
http://www.greatrentals.com/Greece/1844.html

"Location: Lake Heraion, peaceful sea- lake near Perahora and Loutraki
on the Gulf of Corinth in Greece

at Athens airport are met by our local taxi and driven direct to the
Villa (a journey of
about two hours). Car rental..."

[edit]

The seawater of the lake joins the waters of the Gulf of Corinth
through a small navigable (by small motorboats) canal where there are
strong currents. Sports such swimming, scuba diving, water-skiing and
fishing the most popular among locals and visitors. Walking and
cycling are also very enjoyable.

The nearest village is at Perahora some six kilometers away where food
and drink supplies are purchased. From Perahora a winding road
affording superb sea views leads to the local seaside spa town of
Loutraki - 16 kilometers from the Lake. Here there are many tavernas,
shops and hotels.

[edit]

"Area: The house is in grounds of one acre on an elevated site on the
shores of the sea-lake. There are magnificent views from all rooms of
the lake and mountains beyond. Settlements in this area date back to
the 7th century BC and before. The classical name for the lake and
local area is Heraion although the lake is also known as Vouliagmeni
Lake and Blue Lake.

The lake lies near the end of a mountainous peninsula that terminates
at a lighthouse near the ancient harbor of Heraion. This was excavated
by the British archaeologist Humfry Payne during the nineteen thirties
and is well worth a visit. The harbor and small beach are ideal for
summer swimming.

The lake is approximately one and a half kilometers long and three
quarters of a kilometer wide. It has interesting 'moods' varying from
motionless (when the nearby mountains are mirrored in the crystal
clear still waters to quite choppy when refreshing breezes channel
through between the mountain peaks. It is slightly tidal."
