I am looking for a piece of software that goes on the internet and
downloads images. Does anyone know of any kind of software like this?

I am looking for multiple software titles. They should be able to
download images from web-sites that are entered, or should be able to
download images based on a query.

"Google images" does a similar job as to what I'm looking for. Medium
to large images without duplicates. (copyrighted pictures are not a
problem necessarily)

I have found 3 pieces of software like this before. I have
field-tested all 3 and each has had some problems. The only one that I
remember is PCrawler.

I want the names and the web-sites that these programs can be attained
from. I am looking for at least 5 programs that can retrieve the
images. I would like a listing of the 'pros' and 'cons' of the
software titles.

Are you looking for only freetware, or are you willing to go for
shareware or software that you need to buy (spend money on)?

I beg your pardon, that should be "freeware".

Hi anon2me,
Can you elaborate on what you consider to be "Pros" and "Cons" of the
software you are looking for?
Thank you.

Greetings Anon2me2,
I have looked around the Internet for picture downloader programs and
I listed here as many as I could. Since I believe the picture download
utility kind of program is very popular, so that may be why only one
program is freeware, and all the rest are shareware (try for a while,
then pay to get the password for the full features). My
recommendations would be Iphoto, Picaloader and Nici, since they seem
to have the most features. But on a tight budget, Advanced Pic Hunter
would do. I considered the prices Cons since there is such a thing as
freeware, but unfortunately that seems non-existent at the moment
except for one. Other cons are mainly that some programs can have less
features than the others.

The information to these ones I could find on my own. I know that
there are more programs out there. I wanted names for programs that
were a little harder to find. There wasn't even a good pros and cons
to it. I'm looking for a more detailed pro and con answer, and the
person that answered the question didn't even use the full versions of
the software, or had no access to the full versions. The effort was
good. I like it that he actually tried some of the programs and that
he gave me links to related sites. I like the other contributions.

There is a program called wget that has a windows version. It runs at
the command line, but it will do what you are looking for. It will
download everything from a weblocation (including images) and it will
go as deep as you tell it to go.

Once you get a site downloaded, you can easily extract all the
pictures by doing a search on the directory for all *.jpg images (or
whatever other types of files you are looking for). From the search
results window you can copy all the files to a separate directory.

To find wget do a search for wget AND windows (or whatever OS you are
using).

Hope that helps.
