According to SageRock.com U.S. marketers spend $6.8 billion in 2004
online in 2004.

This figure was taken from the following article published September
25, 2003:

Article description:
“Figures and predicted trends from recent online-marketing studies,
which are worth keeping in mind when developing 2004 proposals and
internal marketing plans.”

Relevant excerpt:

“Jupiter Research projects a 10 percent boost in online marketing this
year, to $6.3 billion, compared to a 6 percent growth for advertising
overall. By 2008, Jupiter projects the online ad market to have
reached $14.8 billion.”

“But as marketers spend more on interactive advertising, they also
expect more, says Tobi Elkin, who covers interactive marketing for
Advertising Age.”
