I am an independent non commercial visual and video artist. I show my
work at art galleries and video and film festivals. I do not profit financially
from my work and I am often working with a small/no budget. I would
like to get permission to use a clip (2 minutes in length) from one of
Monty Python's films : The Quest for the Holy Grail. Could you give me
the name(s) of the person(s) who owns the copyrights and how I can
contact them to ask for permission? It is important I get in touch
with the key individual(s) since this can be a very sensitive issue.

Howdy lhooq,

The person you want to get hold of is Roger Saunders of
Python (Monty) Pictures.

From the TalentEast East London Creative Directory.
http://www.talenteast.net/docs/areas/dals.htm

"Python (Monty) Pictures - distribution
34 Thistlethwaite Road, London E5 0QQ
tel: 020 8510 0348 fax: 020 8510 9310
contact: Roger Saunders"

Since Mr. Saunders is Monty Python's business manager, it
appears he is the "go to" guy for the boys of Python.
From the PythOnlines's Daily Llama.
http://www.dailyllama.com/news/1998/llama085.html

"Python business manager Roger Saunders said he was unaware
of any surviving unused clips."

Also from the Daily Llama is this report of Mr. Saunders'
getting a print of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" to a
company that was making trading cards based on the movie.
http://www.dailyllama.com/news/1996/llama047.html

"Roger Saunders, of the Python office in London, provided
Cornerstone with a newly-struck print of the film ..."

This smart.co.uk website describes Mr. Saunders' role in
the use of Monty Python's Terry Gilliam's work at a
Australian animation festival.
http://www.smart.co.uk/dreams/tgjul02.htm

"Dan Katz reported to Dreams in June that the Melbourne
International Animation Festival was to present a
collection of Terry Gilliam's Monty Python cartoons as
part of its programme.
...
Festival organisers wish to pay tribute to the generosity
of Terry Gilliam and Roger Saunders of Python (Monty)
Pictures for making this possible."

Mr. Saunders also pops up in talks of adapting "Monty
Python and the Holy Grail" into a stage musical. From
the Ananova Ltd. website.
http://www.ananova.com/entertainment/story/sm_687442.html

"They are considering adapting ... Monty Python And The
Holy Grail for the theatre.
...
Roger Saunders of Python (Monty) Pictures told showbiz trade
newspaper The Stage: 'There have been various stage shows
which have been adapted from well-known sources.'"

If you need any clarification, feel free to ask.
