Hi Sulafa,
Sorry about the wait.
It appears you can use the handycam to record onto DVD, and then if
you want to edit the video, you'll have to remove the recorded disk
and then edit it in iMovie. You can then save it as a completed DVD
without loss of quality.
"The DCR-DVD100 ($900) and the DCR-DVD-300 ($1100) both use a 3-in.
DVD-R or DVD-RW to record instead of DV tapes, which means going from
camera to TV is easy. Simply take out the recorded disc and pop it
into your DVD player. And if you want to edit your video in a program
like Apple's iMovie, it's easy to put the DVD into your computer's
DVD-ROM drive and get your material there. If you have a DVD burner in
your computer, you can save the edited movie as a completed DVD--all
without any loss of quality."

This review says that iMovie users can't edit footage because there is
no FireWire interface:
"However, as the video format for DVD is MPEG-2 rather than the DV
Stream format used by most digital video editing applications. Legions
of iMovie users are excluded from editing footage captured on these
DVD camcorders because of the lack of a FireWire (iLink) interface..."

I contacted Sony for clarification, and they said:
The DCR-DVD100 DVD camcorder does not have an i-LINK(FireWire) port
nor does it have the USB streaming feature. It also does not support
Mac OS.
The DCR-DVD100 DVD camcorder is not compatible with the Mac.
Sony however offers other camcorders such as the DCR-TRV33 MiniDV
camcorder that features an i-LINK port and is compatible with Mac.
Please click on the link given below to view and place an order for
the DCR-TRV33 MiniDV camcorder.

So, the Sony DCR-TRV33 may be a better option for you.
I hope this answers your question.

I want to buy a DCR-DVD100 DVD Handycam but before i do, i want to
make sure that i can import the video to my mac and edit it like i do
with my digital camcorder. I have a Sony digital camcorder and i
import all my video to it, but before i get a new camcorder i want to
make sure it will work like normal for me.
In a review I recently came across, it said:
"However, as the video format for DVD is MPEG-2 rather than the DV
Stream format used by most digital video editing applications. Legions
of iMovie users are excluded from editing footage captured on these
DVD camcorders because of the lack of a FireWire (iLink) interface..."
Please can you explain what this statement means, and how the lack of
a firewire interface would affect me as a Mac user (using iMovie).
Many thanks. |
