A book (an autobiography) came out in the late 1970's or early 80's
about a woman who quits her job after she gets married. She gets to
do all the things she likes, such as gourmet cooking, etc., while her
husband continues to work and support both of them. After a while it
becomes clear that the husband resents the fact that he's the sole
breadwinner while she gets to stay home. I'm searching for the title,
which I believe perhaps was something such as, "Cinderella and the
Rescue Phantasy," or something to that effect. Can you help me? It
was probably under the broad category of Feminism.

Hello Bev75,

I am confident that the book you are referring to is The Cinderella
Complex : Women's Hidden Fear of Independence by Colette Dowling.

From Kirkus Reviews , May 1, 1998

”In The Cinderella Complex (1981) Dowling hypothesized that even the
most liberated woman had a secret hope that The Prince, glass slipper
in hand, was en route to rescue her from independence and
responsibility. The book was an international bestseller, earning
Dowling millions.”

“Every teen-age girl should read the book THE CINDERELLA COMPLEX.
Author Collette Dowling delivers a strong argument as to why women, in
spite of gains made through feminism, are mistakenly willing to let a
man take care of them.”
