Hi,

Thank you for your question. Your motherboard should run a 233 at the
correct speed. It seems that the multiplier on the board is only set
to 2.5 instead of 3.5. Can you confirm that this is the case? Do you
have the manual for this motherboard?
Thanks.

Hi,

I have found a manual for your motherboard, you can find it here:
ftp://User:webhq@webhq.cjb.net/manuals/pcchips/m520.zip
Also here are some details about your motherboard:
http://motherboards.mbarron.net/models/pcchips/m520.htm#top

Please confirm that this is your board by looking at the pictures. If
so, I can tell you how to run your cpu at 200MHz and *maybe* 225MHz.
Would this be an acceptable answer?

Thanks.

hi endo.

I have seen motherboard as suggested and it is the same as far
as I can tell. The mobo I have has a max mhz off 75 and max
mutiplcation off 2.5. It is set at 66 mhz and 2.5x and is running at
166mhz.
I would be delighted if it would run as fast as you hope.

       Many thanks KEN.

Hello again!

We will try and get your CPU running at 200MHz first.
Please find jumper 12 and open it. This means you should remove the
little black device that's on the pins. Please be careful not to touch
any components on the motherboard. You could use tweezers if it's
easier. Please also make sure to turn the computer off and disconnect
the power cable.

This should have the effect of setting the multiplier to 3, and have
your CPU running at 200MHz. Please try this configuration and see if
it works.

If it does work correctly, then you can try changing the motherboard
speed to 75MHz. Please note that this is not a standard speed, and
thus your computer might not be as stable as when the speed is set to
66MHz. To change the speed to 75MHz you need to open jumper 10 as
above. The result of these 2 operations should be a CPU running at
225MHz. If this configuration is not stable, then you will have to
stick with the maximum speed of 200MHz. Please then close jumper 10
again.

The jumper number should be indicated in small text on the PCB right
next to the jumper itself.

Please let me know if this works, and if you are satisfied I will post
it as an answer.

Thanks.

Hello, I have set the jumpers as you suggest and am getting 180 mhz.
Is this as good as I will get?
      many thanks KEN.

Hi,

180MHz sounds like 60MHz on the motherboard and a multiplier of 3. 3
is the best you can hope for, but you should be able to set it to
either 66MHz or 75MHz on the motherboard. Can you move the black
connector from jumper 11 to jumper 10 please, this should set you back
to 66MHz and a total of 200MHz. If you want to try 225MHz, remove the
black connectors from jumper 10 and jumper 11, although this is not
guaranteed to work. Please let me know if you have any problems.

Thanks.

Hi Endo,
I have tried setting jumpers to 75mhz @x3 and get 180 mhz CPU
speed. I set at 66 mhz and x3 get 160 mhz . I know the maths does not
add [multiply]up so so I think this may be the best I am going to get
for some reason. I have learned a great deal during this exercise and
I am happy to see an increase in speed for our efforts, thank you for
your help. I will invest in a faster computer once I have mastered
this one, if I ever do.At the start I was not sure how much to offer
for the advice I hope it sufficient.

Hi,

I am happy to see you are satisfied, I'm sorry you weren't able to get
the speed increase you expected.

May I please suggest you download WCPUID from
H.Oda!'s home page
http://hp.vector.co.jp/authors/VA002374/src/download.html

WCPUID will tell you the exact speed your CPU is running at. Sometimes
the BIOS will report an incorrect value, this will help you verify any
settings.
The internal clock, is the CPU speed, the system clock is the
motherboard speed and obviously the multiplier is the multiplier
setting.

I hope you will be using Google Answers again.

Kind regards,

endo

I have this same board, and the same problem. The problem is based in
the hardware and can not be changed. the board maxes out at 180mhz
when in a non-standard setting.
