I would like to know if any universities offer/sponsor 1-2 week
intermediate level intensive German language classes for adults in
Germany. I am not interested in strictly private programs.

Dear KL 985,

How about a programme ran by the Goethe Institut?

The Goethe Institut is not a private organisation.

I found a listing of summer German language courses taught at German
Universities; however, most of the courses seem to be 4 weeks instead
of 1-2 weeks. You may wish to look anyway:

The Goethe Institute offers classes in German. These are taught by
university-level instructors. There are various levels of courses: for
business, diplomats, students, tourists, and so on. There are Goethe
Institutes in many cities in Germany. The one in Luneburg, Freiburg,
and Murnau are in very beautiful settings. Visit
