Hello.

I combed through the historical statistics at Major League Baseball's
official site [ http://www.mlb.com ]. Through the 2003 season, there
were indeed five players who were the team career leaders in both home
runs and batting average.

Ted Williams
Red Sox home run leader: 521

Red Sox batting average leader: .344

Babe Ruth
Yankees home run leader: 659

Yankees batting average leader: .349

Jeff Bagwell
Astros home run leader: 419
http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/hou/stats_historical/hou_historical_player_stats.jsp?sortByStat=HR&statType=1&baseballScope=HOU&teamPosCode=all&subScope=pos&timeFrame=3&timeSubFrame2=0&Submit=Submit
Astros batting average leader: .300
http://houston.astros.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/hou/stats_historical/hou_historical_player_stats.jsp?sortByStat=AVG&statType=1&baseballScope=HOU&teamPosCode=all&subScope=pos&timeFrame=3&timeSubFrame2=0&Submit=Submit

Fred McGriff
Devil Rays home run leader: 97

Vladimer Guerrero
Expos home run leader: 234

------------

For next season, you might keep an eye on Luis Gonzalez and Larry
Walker, both of whom are very close to being all-time team leaders in
the batting average and home runs.

Luis Gonzalez is the Diamondbacks' leader in home runs and a close
second in batting average.

Likewise, Larry Walker is the Rockies' leader in home runs and a close
second in batting average.

Rockies batting average:

search strategy:
browsed data for every team at mlb.com

I hope this helps.
