Hi digital1, The following is the result of my research for the number of commercial radio stations in the European Union. As I mentioned in my clarification, the data is available for 1995, but scarce for more recent years. Some of the numbers are mentioned on the World Information website, while for others I had to search for one country at a time, thus the unavailability of some. COUNTRY 1995 2002/2003 ======== ====== =========== Austria 11 50 Belgium 200 200 Denmark 170 250 Finland 52 70 France 698 800 Germany 188 N/A Greece 420 420 Ireland 24 25 Italy 650 N/A Luxembourg 23 N/A Portugal 515 300 Spain 1450 N/A Sweden 90 90 The Netherlands 310 N/A United Kingdom 177 300 TOTAL 4978 Sources: Europa: Association of European Radios http://europa.eu.int/ISPO/convergencegp/aer.html World Information http://www.worldinformation.com/ Search criteria: there are * commercial radios stations EU there are * commercial radios stations <country> I hope this helps. If you have questions regarding my answer please dont hesitate to ask before rating. Best regards, rainbow-ga |

digital1, You might find this useful too... "Oliver & Ohlbaum, a strategy consultancy in the media sector, have published their review of the European radio sector. It is understood to be the first overview of its kind. Within the report, it is suggested that the "European commercial radio sector is still extremely underdeveloped with 5,100 stations..." http://www.theradiomagazine.co.uk/PastNews/2001-12.htm ("European Commercial Radio Underperforming", 11 December 2001) |
