Hello. The Yahoos appeared in "Gulliver's Travels" by Jonathan Swift. "In Gulliver's Travels the Yahoos are degenerate men who serve horses which are far more civilized than the Yahoos. They are irrational people, representing the worst of human beings. So effective was Swift's description of the Yahoos, the term has come to mean an uncouth or uncivilized people. " source: Jonathan Swift web page, hosted by: Southwest Tennessee Community College http://faculty.stcc.cc.tn.us/bmcclure/lessons2/swift.htm The full-text of "Gulliver's Travels" is available free on this geocities web page: http://www.geocities.com/soho/nook/7255/GULLIVER.html search strategy: I was already aware that the Yahoos were from "Gulliver's Travels", so I searched: yahoos, gulliver's travels, swift I hope this helps. |
