Can you tell us what you mean by "true value?" There's an old saying,
"An item is worth what the buyer is willing to pay."

Well if I don't know the true value of let's say a particular painting
has an auction value of $10,000.00 and I don't know this and the
person tells me it is not worth over $500.00 and I sell it to him I
really got ripped off. The same of record albums and other antiques.I
am only looking for a fair value price and connections from people who
are looking for these sorts of item and getting a fair market price.
Such as my brother has an old Arbitt Blatas painting, too many to get
appraised,as some are possibly not worth the appraisal cost, same with
record albums, would like to sell all to someone at a fair market
price. I guess where to get the most money for these and many other
antiques. It takes the right connection to get the hightest prices

Auctions almost always get *more* than what the item is worth, which
is why antiques experts usually differentiate between auction value,
insurance value, and replacement value. To get the highest prices, you
must usually sell through one of the major auction houses (Christies,
Sotheby's, etc.). However, the auction house takes a cut, of
course...and then there's the whole issue of trying to get that
auction house to accept your stuff...
