The other common analogy is to imagine yourself standing on a cherry as a cherry cake is baked - the logic is identical, but the cake tastes better :-) Ian G. |

The classic example to explain why the universe seems to expand in all directions from any center point: Imagine the universe as a ballon with many spots on its surface, and you're standing on one of the many spots. As the ballon inflates, it will seem to be inflating equally from any spot. There is no 'center.' |
