I used to have a classical compilation CD which had a recording of
"Nymphs and Shepherds" by Purcell performed by the Manchester
Children's Choir back in the 1930s (my mum was in that choir!) as well
as Litolff's Scherzo and I think it also had "the Easter Song" from
Cavalleria Rusticana and Nessum Dorma and heaps of other wonderful
tracks. I'd really like to find a copy to purchase either online or
locally in Australia. It might have been called something like "golden
classics" and it might have been a 2 CD set, but then again, it might
not. I've searched but cannot locate a copy for sale. Hope someone out
there can do a better job than I have and find it for me.

Could this be the one? (haven't found one for sale yet but thought I'd
check with you first before I tried)

Hi Hummer, thanks for checking this out for me. The cover is
definitely not the one I remember. (And when it says "78 classics"
does it mean 78 rpm or 78 different tracks?) I should have mentioned
it earlier; the cd I had was bought in the late 1980s.

Thanks stressedmum, I'll have another look. I believe "78" is
referring to classics that were once found on 78 rpm records. hummer

I found a five-volume series of "Gramophone All-Time Greats." Volume
1 has "Nymphs and Shepherds" and Volume 3 has "Nessun Dorma!", but it
doesn't seem to have either the "Easter Song" or the Scherzo. Could
this be it?

Hiya efn,

Thanks a heap for trying, and it looks like a fabulous compilation
but, I'm really sorry, it isn't *the one*. Mine definitely had the
Scherzo. : (

Hi there 4Keith, thank you for your comment. I'm very happy to pay a
reasonable amount as in say $20-30 or so (remember that an Aussie
dollar buys around 68 US cents at the moment so it could add up to
being fairly pricey from this end). It isn't a collectors item or
anything so I don't imagine that it would be too expensive. If it can
be sourced through an on-line store anywhere around the world, I'll be
happy to do that.

The CD identified by Hummer is part of a 2 CD series, which could have
been sold as a set, since they both came out in 1993. Here are the
two volumes:

"78 Classics - Volume One"
Amazon.co.uk
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000581VC/ref=sr_aps_classical_1_1/026-9383480-1515665

"78 Classics - Volume Two"
Amazon.co.uk
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000581VD/qid=1066269448/sr=1-24/ref=sr_1_0_24/026-9383480-1515665

I have found the first CD for sale at two online stores, supposedly in
stock. I haven't seen the second CD listed in stock, though I imagine
that with more searching, it would be available somewhere.

Do you think that these are the correct two CDs?

Hi there,

This is proving to be far more difficult than I thought! I'm really
sorry folks. No, justaskscott, I'm certain that the two volumes that
hummer found aren't the same as I had. In fact I've double checked
with my sister who lent me the original (and that's why I'm trying to
replace it) and she is also certain that they're not the ones we're
looking for. The one I had was definitely released in the mid-to-late
eighties. It was a 2 cd box and she also thinks it had Vivaldi's Four
Seasons and Pachelbel's Canon. She also thinks it *might* have been a
Decca release and that it might have been sold through the ABC Shop
(Australian Broadcasting Commission) here in Australia. (FYI I did
ring them and they were no help.)I really appreciate the effort going
into this and if we end up finding the right one, I'll double the
payment by adding a $5 tip.

How much are you willing to pay for this item (a general price range)?
Are you looking for primarily an American source to buy from or would
you also consider purchasing it if the item was found in a foreign
country?
