Hi Glena~

Most musicians feel Finale is the best music notation/transposition
software available today. There are several different types of
software offered by Finale, ranging from complex enough to do full
orchestrations to simple enough for basic transposition. Good choice
would include:

PrintMusic!, which allows you to point and click notes in place:
http://www.finalemusic.com/printmusic/ This program is a bargain at
$69.95.

NotePad, which is the simpliest of all the Finale products, but has
certain limitations:
http://www.finalemusic.com/notepad/ There is a free version of this
software, or you can buy a disc for $19.95. I would recommend trying
to free version first, and making sure you feel comfortable with the
program, as it is limited.

And then there’s the ultimate, Finale:
http://www.finalemusic.com/finale/ This is mighty powerful software
and typically sells for about $400-500.

You may also be interested in Virtual Hymnal, which contains over 300
traditional hymns, and the ability to transpose them into any key:
http://download.com.com/3000-2135-8116275.html?tag=lst-0-6 The
software is free to try, and about $50 to keep.

I hope this helps!

I regularly transpose and arrange music and the program I recommend
above all others is Sibelius 3. There is no better program for
transposing or composing music on a computer. It's available on PC and
Mac, and although it's expensive (it cost a minimum of £600 in the UK
unless you're a student or teacher), it is miles ahead of all the
competition. It's easy to use, and delivers professional-looking
scores- and no- I don't work for them.

I also much prefer Sibelius to Finale. I used to use Finale but it was
far too difficult. Sibelius can do all the same things as Finale, but
it's much easier to learn & hence quicker to use, in my opinion.
