Hi chris45!

Here's the reason why The West Wing was pulled.

According to Tim Cuprisin, “If you're wondering what happened to
Wednesday's "The West Wing," NBC pulled the scheduled episode and
replaced it with a "Law & Order" rerun. The network figured a good
chunk of TV viewers would be over on Fox, watching the climactic
Cubs-Marlins game."

"This decision - like so many these days - was made at the last
minute, so it didn't make it in the TV listings.”

A posting in Google Newsgroup also discusses that NBC pulled The West
Wing because of the Cubs/Marlins game.
