Hello.

Here's the United Nations' official definition of the term "violence
against women" as stated in a 1993 General Assembly resolution:

"Article 1
For the purposes of this Declaration, the term "violence against
women" means any act of gender-based violence that results in, or is
likely to result in, physical, sexual or psychological harm or
suffering to women, including threats of such acts, coercion or
arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring in public or in
private life."

I hope this helps.

The UN definition mentioned above seems to be the standard that NGOs
like Amnesty International use as well.

'UN Declaration on the Elimination of Violence Against Women states
that "'violence against women' means any act of gender-based violence
that results in, or is likely to result in, physical, sexual or
psychological harm or suffering to women, including threats of such
acts, coercion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether occurring
in public or in private life."

Here are a couple alternate definitions from other NGOs:

'According to the Women’s Studies International Forum violence against
women is defined as:
physical, visual, verbal, or sexual acts that are experienced by
women or a girl as a threat, invasion, or assault and that have the
effect of hurting her or degrading her and/ or taking away her ability
to control.'

From the American Psychology Association:
'The APA Taskforce on Male Violence Against Women defined violence as,
"Physical, visual, verbal, or sexual acts that are experienced by a
woman or a girl as threat, invasion, or assault and have the effect of
hurting her or degrading her and/or taking away her ability to control
contact (intimate or otherwise) with another individual"'
