Hi Craig ~
One thing you didn't mention is who handles your connection to the
Internet (dialup, dsl or cable).
Some companies will block Port 25 and NOT let you send outgoing email
(SMTP) except through their settings.
According to Hypermart, some of those companies are:
Here are a few of the major ISP's that block Port 25:
* NetZero
* Mindspring
* MSN
* Earthlink
* Flashnet
* MediaOne
* AT&T
* Verizon
* Bell Sympatico
- http://www.postcastserver.com/html/port_25_blocking.html
Cox Cable and Comcast also block port 25, so you will have to use
their SMTP for outgoing mail as well.
=====================
Setup for Hypermart
=====================
The setup instructions for using Outlook 2000 or Outlook 2002/XP for
POP mail can be found here:
- http://www.hypermart.net/knowledgebase/read_article.bml?kbid=194
As you can see, Hypermart does require your checking the "My Server
Requires Authentication" box.
Of course, if your ISP won't allow you (as mentioned above), you will
have to change those settings to your ISP's settings.
======================
Setup for Yahoo! Mail
======================
Yahoo! email, on the other hand, specifically says to make sure that
you DO NOT check the "My Server Requires Authentication" box. (See No.
13, "Microsoft Outlook 98 and 2000")
- http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/mail/pop/pop-05.html
Their incoming (POP3 or IMAP) email setting is pop.mail.yahoo.com
Their outgoing (SMTP) is smtp.mail.yahoo.com.
Please note that Yahoo! email will not work with Outlook 97.
Again, if your ISP has blocked port 25, you will have to enter your
ISP's outgoing (SMTP) as your outgoing in order to send via Outlook.
Hope this helps, and good luck!
