Hi,

In reference to betting on sports, what does "round-robin" or "parlay"
mean. How does that work? In the sentence, "I also like the Marlins
to win the series for 2 units", what are units? What is the puck line
or the money line? Any general information regarding on how betting
would work would be appreciated. Examples with different scenarios
also would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Dorothy Miller

Dear dorothy1010-ga;

Thank you for allowing me an opportunity to answer your interesting
question.

“A Round Robin wager allows a player to pick between 3 - 5 outcomes
and create all the possible 2 or 3 team parlays from the selected
outcomes. So, for example, if you pick a 5 team 3 play Round Robin,
ten 3 team parlays will be created.” Like this:

Here are some other great explanations of the bet along with
hypothetical examples and scenarios:

A parlay wager is much the same except all the teams chosen in this
combination bet must win or the entire wager loses:

Use the drop down menu on the left with the heading WAGER TYPES to see
more kinds of wagers.

A money line wager is simply betting on a specific team to win. If the
team wins by any number of points the wager wins. Here is an
explanation and vivid example of a money line wager:

The “puck line” is very similar but the term is used primarily on the
US East Coast in reference to hockey wagering. This is simply placing
a bet on a specific team to win by a predesignated point spread. If
the team fails to win by the point spread indicated the entire wager
loses. Here is a good example of a puck line bet:

A unit is usually a fixed amount set by a bookie or a dealer. This can
be either the minimum bet or the maximum bet depending on the game. In
poker for example, if the dealer sets the maximum bet at $1000 you’d
simply say “I raise one unit”. This tells the dealer you want to bet
another $1000. If a bookie is taking bets on sports teams and sets the
minimum bet at $20, you might call in and tell him you want to put 5
units on the Cubs. This tells the bookie to put you down for a $100
wager that the Cubs will win.
