wadadah --

No such book or author appears on what NPR calls its "comprehensive
list of recent book features, reviews and author interviews from NPR
programs" for the past 30 days. Here is a link to that list:

http://www.npr.org/books/index.html

Of course, that does not mean that the interview you remember did not
occur on NPR -- possibly in a format other than a book feature piece,,
but it does suggest that the interview might have occurred on a Public
Radio International ("PRI") program, for example.

Do you remember what program you were listening to, or anything else
about the interview that might constitute a clue?

In my previous posting I should have pointed out that "Bushwhacked," a
new book by Molly Ivins, was the subject of a segment on the NPR
program "Fresh Air" on October 7 and is on the list linked above.

Here is a link to NPR's summary description of that segment, which
includes a link to the interview itself. Could this by what you are
looking for?

Hello Wadadah,

I'm going to go out on a limb as guess that the book was "Imperial
America: The Bush Assault on the World Order" (2003) by John Newhouse.

The book was just published last month (September 2003).

The author's last name starts with N.

The book discusses relationships between officials within the current
Bush administration.

See various descriptions on Amazon.com:

"...Newhouse explores the relationship between foreign and domestic
policy--Bush is the first U.S. president to declare a first-strike war
and, instead of asking for sacrifice, pushed for more tax cuts. He
also explores the dynamics between the administration and Congress,
relationships among Bush advisors, and dealings between the Bush
administration and foreign leaders.

...Woven through with illuminating anecdotes and vivid portraits of
the players–Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Powell, Blair, Chirac, Putin, and
others

....Indeed, without such an interpretation of the world views of such
administration stalwarts as Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleeza
Rice (who appears here to be more opportunistic sycophant than
intellectual heavyweight) and influential others such as Paul
Wolfowitz, Richard Perle, and John Bolton, it is difficult to
comprehend the collective actions of the current administration in
terms of its continuing callous disregard of former agreements,
alliances, precedence, or international law."

Additionally, it seems that John Newhouse has been promoting the book
on NPR stations. Just last Monday, Newhouse was a guest on The
Leonard Lopate Show on WNYC, New York City's NPR affiliate.

"MONDAY 13 OCTOBER 2003
*John Newhouse on the Bush assault on the world order (Imperial
America)"

Browsed Amazon.com Subject: Bush, George W

I hope this is the book that you wanted. If not, please use the
"request clarification" feature to let me know. I will gladly resume
my search if necessary. Thanks.

Sorry for that typo in the first sentence:
