I wish to Hire a Cruise ship for a period of one year to travel back
and forwards between Darwin Australia, and Dili, Timor Leste. I need
to know details of people who can provide such a charter.

Request for Question Clarification by leader-ga on 19 Oct 2003 07:29 PDT
Can you please describe the size of the ship? Are you looking for a
large cruise ship that can accomodate 2000-3000 people or are you
looking for a luxury yacht charter which is much smaller? Thanks.

Also, by "cruise ship" are you looking for a motor yacht or larger
cabin cruiser, or are you also interested in large sailing vessels,
i.e. schooners, sloops, etc.? You want the vessel to be crewed, as
well, right (meaning you're not igoing to sail/motor it completely by
yourself with you and your people)?

petergregory-ga,

Here I will provide you with a list of contact information for yacht
and ship charters in the Darwin, Australia and Dili, Timor Leste
regions. The high-end charter cruise community is rather close-knit,
and if you call each of the numbers on this list with your specific
requirements, you’ll be able to work out a suitable arrangement.

When you say, “for one year,” I’m assuming you mean frequent cruises
of shorter durations throughout the year (reserved for you and your
party), because it would be more economical for you to buy your own
vessel than to literally charter someone else’s for one year. If this
does not describe your intentions, simply request Clarification to
this Answer and I will promptly include whatever additional
information it is that you wish, even if it includes purchasing or
leasing your own vessel.

Below is an e-mail response from the charter yacht company, Boating OZ
Charters and Events:

“Thank you for your enquiry for a charter for one year in Timor. I do
not
know of any boats available for such a long charter. It would probably
be
more economical to buy a boat for the duration.

Regards
Kathy McKenzie”

Sorry I think I asked the wrong question. I am trying to support
Tourism in East Timor, and as a basic need to improve travel links. I
am looking to set up a ferry that goes back and forth between East
Timor and Darwin. I would need to run it for a year to test the
commerciality of this and need costings in the first instance.

petergregory-ga ,

Okay, I see. Is there anything to this end that I can help you with at
this time? What specifically would you like to know? Do you know how
many passengers will your ferry need to carry?

Additionally, if you could provide any details about what type of
activities you want to do on the cruise (i.e. just sunset
cruising/relaxing, fine dining, or more active activities such as
SCUBA diving, fishing, filming, etc. or perhaps a little of each) it
would help.
