Do you have any anti-virus software installed?

Hi 1936,

The controls for relaxing the IE 6 automatic attachment removal rules
can be found here:

Select:

TOOLS --> OPTIONS --> SECURITY

Under Virus Protection, UNCLICK (clear) the box that says:

"Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially
be a virus."

I'm not surprised you couldn't find this. I tried to find you a
reference to it in the IE 6 Help and there is nothing even close. The
word virus doesn't even show up in the Search Help, and there is no
discussion of that setting under Attachments, Privacy, Security or any
other topic that I could find.

Apparently, that box being selected is now the default setting in
Internet Explorer 6 Service Pack 1 (SP1) or Windows XP SP1. If you
recently upgraded or installed the service pack, that would explain
your sudden problem.

Here is more information from the Microsoft website:

Cannot Open E-Mail Attachments in Outlook Express After You Install
SP1
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;329570

Although I am confident that changing that setting will solve your
problem, if for any reason that does NOT work, you should check the
settings on any other antivirus software you have running.

Let me know how it goes --

I just realized, I typed the wrong software name in my answer.
Wherever I wrote IE 6, I *meant* to type OE 6. Not sure where my mind
was just then. Sorry about that.

Here's a tip I found by accident. When OE6 'removes' the attachment
and you want to see what it was, click the Forward button - you'll see
that in the new window that opens, the attachments have reappeared.
Double click on them as normal to open them, and hope they are not
viruses!
