I believe I have found precisely the data you're seeking on the
website of the United States Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor
Statistics:

Bureau of Labor Statistics: Median years of tenure with current
employer for employed wage and salary workers by industry, selected
years, 1983-2002
http://www.bls.gov/news.release/tenure.t05.htm

Other data related to employee tenure may be found here, on the same
site:

Bureau of Labor Statistics: Employee Tenure
http://www.bls.gov/news.release/tenure.toc.htm

Search terms used:

"job longevity" + "industry"
"median job tenure" + "industry"
"average job tenure" + "industry"
"median employee tenure" + "industry"
"average employee tenure" + "industry"
"median length of service" + "industry"
"average length of service" + "industry"
"job stability" + "industry"

If this information does not meet your needs, please request
clarification, and I will gladly resume the quest.

Best regards,

This is most helpful. I was searching bna.com, shrm.org and
worldatwork.org and wasn't finding exactly what I needed.
