My sis watches the Hercule Poirot movies shown on A&E, and PBS. She says she would love a phone like his for Christmas. I assume it is an Art Deco phone, but I need to know specifically which phone it is. |

The Hercule Poirot stories were written between 1920 (The Mysterious Affair at Styles) and 1975 (Curtain) although the 1930s is usually regarded as "The Golden Era" of British crime fiction. A British phone in a home of the 1930s would most likely be a 200 series, such as items 4201, 4202 or 4203 at http://www.telephonelines.net/menus/traditional_thumbs_menu.htm http://www.telephonelines.net/traditional_pages/4201.htm This Siemens Neophone style was introduced in 1929 and the 232 version, which had improved circuitry, in 1936. This telephone became the GPO's standard table set and were in use up to the 1960s or even later. http://web.ukonline.co.uk/freshwater/t232.htm http://web.ukonline.co.uk/freshwater/neophon.htm Whether this is the type of phone used in modern movies is another matter, of course.
