I get a 'general protection in module 3DFX16V3.DRV' when there is a
graphic in any of Word, Excel or Powerpoint. e.g. when I scroll down a
Word document to the point in the document where the embedded picture
is, or when I get to specific slides in Powerpoint. Guess it's some
kind of memory problem. How do I stop it happening? I'm using
Windows98 on a Dell machine.

Hello, egj:
That kind of message seems to be an error of your video card driver,
probably you need to update to the latest version. Which video card do
you have?

Regards.

Aha! hadn't thought about that possibility!
Does Voodoo3 3000D AGP sound like a video card? If not how do I find
out what card I have?

Hello, egj:

Yes, this is your graphic card, also I have found a message of
someone with the same problem as you, and the solution, it seems to
install the latest driver:

Winword error on Office XP
http://www.computing.net/windows95/wwwboard/forum/130732.html

So you can grab here the latest Voodoo3 drivers for Win9x:

3dhq Voodoo3 W9X 1.09 Beta 10 drivers
http://www.voodoofiles.com/getit.asp?id=9526&g=2&d=22&s=20863129

Once you download the file, uncompress it and execute the .exe file,
follow the on-screen instructions and restart your computer.

If you have any problems uncompressing the file, or any other
question, just ask, I'm here to help you.

Also, I don't answer this question yet because it's a technical
support question, my answer could be the solution or not, so try it
and let me know if this fixes your problem. If it doesn't work, don't
worry, we will try another thing.

Regards.

Worked like magic: having the machine work properly again is like
having an old friend back!

Screen saver played up a bit after the change but I think I've fixed
it...

Well done!
