Hey, Everyone I have just discovered that it's Jem's birthday TODAY! How can we make it a day that she will always remember? Some versification perhaps? Bryan |

Hi Bryan :) I'm going to be a cheeky birthday girl and answer this question - can't have unanswered birthday questions lying around, can we? ;) Some home-grown limerick efforts follow (remember, I only had 1 cup of coffee before attempting these): There once was a man named Bryan Who had the heart of a lion But instead of crusades And the swishing of blades He rather preferred a good lie-in ************* "I need a question answered", he thought Oh where can such things be bought Aha! he then read About what GA said And realised, "There's no need to be distraught!" ************** Born under the sign of the scales With a liking for fanciful tales A versification challenge was made And with these words I have played Do you know how much work this entails?! *************** And if you fancy seeking national acclaim as a poet, visit the BBC's Limerick Challenge found at: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/3177418.stm where you can submit your lyrical limericks online as part of their National Poetry Day celebrations. Kind regards and many happy returns! jem-ga :) |

Thanks Bryan :) I'm sure that our duo of birthday questions will showcase some of the best and the brightest that GA has to offer :) Any special plans for your big day tomorrow? I'm off for champers and lobster tonight - have spent my day off racing around doing errands, sending evil looks to the horrendously noisy workmen who claim they are doing "vital roadworks" but are in fact creating urban chaos, watching movies (Kill Bill), augmenting my DVD collection ("The Player" and "Darkness Falls") and supressing some beastly micro-organism which is making it's presence known via a tickling cough (I think the champagne will knock it on the head) ;) Warmest wishes jem-ga :) |

Jem -- Last week's issue of The New Yorker (Oct. 20, 2003) has an excellent article on Quentin Tarantino and "Kill Bill" (tangentially really about the movie). It's a good issue: all about Hollywood, including a piece on screenwriting. I didn't check The New Yorker website but don't think that they archive articles very extensively. But a good London library would have the magazine, I trust. And my apologies to Bryan for hijacking his question. Best regards, Omnivorous-GA |

I used to dream that I would discover The perfect Answerer some day. I knew Id recognise her If ever she came along my way. I always used to fancy then, Shed be one of the Goddess kind of gem; With a giant brain and a noble head, Like the heroines bold in the books I read. But along came Jem, Whos not the type at all Youd meet her in Hyde Park Running for a lark. Her form and face, Her feminine grace Are not the kind that you Would find in a statue, And I cant explain But maybe its her Libra sign That makes her so fem. We adore her Because shes wonderful, Because shes just Our Jem. |

Hi, Jem Nothing special tonight but, tomorrow night, I shall be taking my two daughters out to dinner. We've opted for Thai. Recently, I seem to have collected some of the world's worst movies: The Man Who Knew Too Much (the original version with Peter Lorre); The Phantom President (the first and only movie made by George M Cohan; and Happy Go Lovely (Vera-Ellen). Enjoy yourself ... even if the parody of P G Wodehouse makes you squirm. Kindest regards Bryan |

Hi Bryan :) Thanks for the lovely verse - always a good ego boost to have some verse dedicated in one's honour. Have a lovely Thai dinner tonight - Thai food is always a fine choice in my books! Omni - thanks for the New Yorker reference re: Tarantino - I'll be checking that out later today :) Kind regards jem-ga :) |

Kill Bill: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon meets the evil Charlie's Angels...Quentin has definitely been watching a lot of anime these past six years. ;) I saw the film this past weekend and I am awaiting the sequel to make my final assessment of the epic. I read that Warren Beatty was originally offered the part of Bill...he and David Carradine are about as alike as apples and beef jerky. I am thinking that at the end of the sequel, we might hear "Grasshopper, I don't think you have been listening to me..." lol |
