Hello compuplus-ga,

The following 100 page directory from the New York State Department of
Health is available for helping you choose a nursing home. There are
more than 16,000 nursing homes in New York.

Finding a Nursing Home in New York State
http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/nursing/findnh.pdf
http://www.health.state.ny.us/nysdoh/hlthcare/hlthcare.htm

Please tell me what are the criteria for choosing the 20 nursing home
web sites for your research. What location(s) are you interested in?
What size (how many beds) do you prefer? What other factors are
important to you?

I look forward to your clarification.

I'm not looking for a list of homes I'm looking for a list of websites
of nursing homes. I want to see what type of info they put on.

Hi Compuplus,

As you no doubt already know, it’s not an especially easy task to
locate websites for individual nursing homes, though I'm not sure why.
My original search strategy turned up, probably as yours did, and
perhaps that of my esteemed colleagues as well, merely directories of
nursing homes along with a lot of sites offering advice on choosing
good facilities and avoiding bad ones. However, by some tweaking of
search terms (detailed below), use of subsidiary search engines,
following numerous links, and using individual names from directories
as search terms, I was able to find and compile a list for you of
thirty websites of nursing homes, all located within New York state.
They are grouped alphabetically by location, then by name if more than
one.

The search terms I found to be the most productive included:
websites "new york" "nursing home" OR "care center" OR "residential
care"
"new york" "nursing home" OR "care center" OR "residential care"

The site I used that I would recommend to you if you want to do
further searching on your own is this one:
http://www.myziva.net/search.php I did a search on the whole of New
York state and got a return of 674 names of nursing homes. Then I
took entered each name individually into Google. If it had a website,
it would appear near the top of the list on the first page of the
return. I clicked it, verified it to be in working order, and then
entered it in the list. Not every home had a website, and some sites
were for companies that owned multiple facilities, etc. I tried to
choose those that represented a single home.
