I have a home setup with an answering machine, plus a special fax
number on one line, and a special "incoming fax" ring on that line.
For years I had a fax machine (Canon, I think, can't remember right
now) which worked perfectly with that setup. Then I bought an HP 1010,
after checking the usual online consumer-survey sites, etc.
A total disaster. This has never worked consistently. The company even
sent me a replacement which also doesn't work. It simply doesn't send,
half the time. It also messes up the incoming setup so that I have
simply left it unplugged, except for sending (which, as noted, is
iffy.)
I doubt that this has anything to do with my phone line(s), since the
other fax machine worked fine. Of course lines can develop trouble.
But: When I talked to HP people on the phone, several of them
indicated that some
of their own documentation for the 1010 model was inaccurate and/or
incomplete. Putting 2 and 2 together, I take it that this was one of
those lousy products that never should have shipped, or was shipped
too early, or both.
Does anybody else have any experience with this model? It's cost me a
huge amount of time, and a sizeable amount of wasted money. (I've had
to send faxes at Kinko's for their $1/page or whatever, which has, by
now, totaled half the cost of this unworking machine. |
