After surfing the web I found a new icon in my start up tray.
Now every tine I restart my computer there is what appears to be a
maximized browser window automatically opened on my screen. The
header reads "prosze zaakceptowac poniewaz strona nie moze zostac
poprawnie wyswietcona". I tried the Goggle translator with no luck. I
tried searching my files to find it and erase it with no luck. I
strongly suspect that it is spy ware. I also suspect that it is slowly
eating into my hard drive because I've been having problems with
opening Internet Explorer among other things. I ran msconfig and
looked in Startup to see if I could track it down and delete it, with
no luck. Any suggestions?

Good morning!

I'm assuming that you've already right clicked the new icon to see if
it would yield a menu or information of some sort, and have found it
lacking.

The header appears to be in Polish. Running the phrase through
PolTran.com's Polish to English translator [ http://www.poltran.com ]
gives only a partial translation: "part not correctly" while the rest
remains as written.

Go here:

http://security.kolla.de/

Download and install Patrick Kolla's Spybot Search and Destroy. Close
all programs.

Start S&D in advanced mode (so you can see what it's doing) - select
"Check for problems", then when it has finished its scan, select "Fix
selected problems" from the bar at the bottom of the window.

When it's finished, re-boot your computer. Is the icon still there?

The Polish phrase, as missy-ga already mentioned, is not correct, but
should probably be translated as follows (confirmed by a Polish native
speaker):
Please accept, because the page cannot be presented correctly.

"wyswietcona" replaced by "wyswietlona".

1.Just try to set up adaware6 (freeware) who will remove such
"spywares".
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
After that, run a scan (close all others open windows before) and
delete all the files detected at the end of the scan.

2.It may be an ActiveX, here is the way to find it and remove it
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;154850

3.Otherwise, try to have look in the registry and find it with
regcleaner.
http://www.webmasterfree.com/regcleaner.html
this software will list all the registry. You can sort by name,
location...

Is it OK ?

I think at this stage anything could be happening from a paranoid
point of veiw.

Suggested options,

#1 is you need a more stable secure OS and web browser try
www.linuxiso.org .

#2 do a clean install of your current Os update its bugs add a virus
scanner, firewall and install spybot and adaware. Also you should fix
the security settings in IE that allowed these things to happen.
