brudenell-ga ,

It's safe to say that there are more researcher eyeballs on the
Questions from 8-6 PDT than any other time on average.

That said, there are still a fair amount of active Researchers even in
the PDT "wee hours," because of the fact that there are Researchers in
other world time zones, such as Europe, Asia and South America, and
because some of us in the U.S. are night-owls or insomniacs and like
to burn the midnight oil.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for taking on this difficult to accurately answer question. Is
there a list or approximate list of the geographical locations of the
GAR team (no identifiers required)? From calculations based on the
list + taking into account some of the comments below, one could
hazzard an estimate that combines reasoning with a good guess.

brudenell-ga,

There are no offered lists (even to GA Researchers themselves) of any
personal information about the Researchers, even collectively, as a
group. The only thing you could do in an attempt to figure this out
would be to manually comb through posts of each Researcher and look
for posts where they happen to drop some information about where they
live (i.e. "I feel I can Answer this Question because I live in the
London area...") kind of thing. That would be fairly tedious, I know,
but there are no lists or data available on this subject.

Hope this helps.

Unfortunately, we Researchers have no way of knowing how many other
Researchers are online at any given time. We can, however, note how
many questions are currently locked. Due to chronic sleep problems,
I've been on GA at all times of the day and night, and it seems to me
that the most active time (meaning the time when the most locks are in
place) is approximately between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, PDT, on
weekdays. This is strictly my personal observation, unsupported by any
hard data.

Arrgh. When, in my comment above, I said "between 10:00 AM and 4:00
PM, PDT," my smarteries were clogged. I was thinking of my own time
zone (CDT). I should have said "between 8:00 AM and 2:00 PM, PDT."

I appreciate you taking the time to give your thoughts! I wonder what
the other Researchers think?

Brudenell,

Maybe the other Researchers will start chiming in tomorrow morning,
around 8:00 AM PDT. ;-)

Hello brudenell,
I am located in the PDT zone, and I am more likely to be online from
6pm PDT to 11PM PDT,however, I like to check in every chance I get,
around the clock!

Just a guess: 7 PM Pacific. That way, Researchers from all
continental U.S. time zones are likely to be awake and available.

But, on the other hand, pinkfreud's empirical observation may be more
accurate than my guess. If she is right, then the Researchers must be
more apt to check during the working day.

Keep in mind that "the working day" in the United States is the
evening in Europe, and we have many very active GARs in the UK,
Germany, and elsewhere in Europe.

Pinkfreud is correct in her observations. My assumption is that the
best time for the largest population of Researchers is the best time
to post. But I don't really know whether the U.S. or Europe has more
Researchers.

And how many of us work from home, in the evening, whatever time zone
we are in, and how many are Google Answering in the office...? r2l

Well, I am able to monitor questions from about 8.30 am UK time, but
tend to answer in the evenings, when I am active at various times,
from about 6pm up to as late as 2-3am sometimes. On the other hand, I
only monitor GA when I am not too occupied with other activities,
which means there can be days when I do not log in at all.

Brudenell,

While Researchers do not have access to data regarding the number of
GARs and their locations, you'll find a wealth of interesting
information here:

I am still wondering where omniscientbeing got his info. Being
omniscient has its advantages, eh? ;-)
