I am moving to california from oregon. my driving record is not good. 1 accident and 2 tickets (1 speeding and 1 illegal turn) within the past 2 years. I am thinking that of moving to california and get a new driving licence, and then apply for insurance. will the california insurance companies use my oregon record in determining my rates or will they only use what the cali. dmv record shows? |

Your new insurance will, most likely, ask you to report any tickets or violations you've had in the past 3 years - regardless of location or drivers license number. While you might be able to have insurance issued on your new CA drivers license number and clean record, if you have not honestly reported known violations from your previous location the insurer would have grounds to drop you or potentially deny claims based on the fact that you provided false/incomplete information on the application. You might even wind up paying for insurance that would never pay. |
