I'm trying to find the value of my grandparents "THE NEW ENCYCLOPAEDIC
PICTORIAL FAMILY BIBLE containing the OLD & NEW TESTAMENTS, Apocrypha,
Concordance, and Psalms in Metre which was produced by the Scammell &
Company's Superfine Edition. I am told that it is 130 years old, in
good condition with No FAMILY Portraits included in English. Can you
tell me the value of this Bible?

Dear Viv,

I worked for several years in a used book store. We were often
approached by customers with questions similar to yours.
Unfortunately, there is generally very little market for old Bibles. I
suggest that you hold onto this one as a cherished family keepsake.
Its worth to you is beyond valuation, but its worth on the used book
market may be very little.

If you'd like a professional appraisal, I suggest contacting a local
used book dealer, who may be willing to examine your Bible for any
signs that it would be of interest to a collector. The Internet is not
the best place for book appraisals, since it is difficult to
evaluation the condition of the book (this being a subjective thing in
a verbal description). Some old Bibles may have value if they contain
certain errors or misprints, which is something that an appraiser can
determine more easily in person.

You'll find an excellent article on the subject of old Bibles here:

WHAT IS THAT OLD BIBLE WORTH?

Sorry to disappoint you.

Please forgive my error in the comment above: for "difficult to
evaluation," I should have typed "difficult to evaluate."
