Geneology

I want to know whether I'm related to Patrick Henry. The "Give me
liberty, or give me death", Patrick Henry.

My great-great grandmother was a woman named, Nettie Ellen Henry. She
was born on September 6, 1860 in Murfreesboro, TN. Her father, my
great-great-great grandfather was a man named, Fountain Jeffries
Henry. He was born, October 7th, 1836 in Culpeper, VA. Fountain
Jeffries Henry married Sallie Ellen Osborn on May 19, 1859. Fountain
Henry also had a brother named, Washington C. Henry.

Fountain Jeffries Henry's father was named, Fountain Fisher Henry. He
was born in Culpeper, VA and was the son of Joel Henry and Susannah
Allen. I have no records of birth, death, or marriage.

Fountain Fisher Henry was married to Sarah Dudley Jeffries and they
had seven children.

Joel Henry's fahter was named, George Henry. George Henry's military
record is listed in the Historical Register of the Virginians in the
Revolution.

The following quote is from the autobiography of my great grandfather:

I have understood all my life that we were descended from or very
close to Patrick Henry. There are several by the name of George Henry
connected to the Patrick Henry family, but just which one, if any, is
the correct connection seems destined to remain a secret from me, -
after all, Patrick had seventeen children and sixty grand-children,
and 200 years of genealogy is too large a task for me.

What, if any, is my connection to Patrick Henry?

Thank you.

I didn't find any connection between your family and Patrick Henry's
family, though there may actually be one. What I did find however was
a fairly good deal of information about your known family that you
don't have, such as information about Fountain Fisher and Fountain
Jeffries.

Are you interested in this information as an answer instead in the
event that no one can make the Patrick Henry connection?

Regards;

Thanks for letting me post this as an answer! I think the -ga suffix
denotes a Google Answers account, to differentiate it from a regular
Google account (https://www.google.com/accounts/).

It does not appear that there is a direct descendant link between your
family and that of Patrick Henry, although there could be one that is
more distant. Family bible records (found here
http://www.rootsweb.com/~vaculpep/henrybll.htm) indicate Joel Henry
was born July 26, 1776, and that his parents were George Henry (born
December 1751) and Lydia ?.

The family tree of Patrick Henry can be found here:
http://www.genealogy.com/famousfolks/patrickh/d0/i0000031.htm#s3 .
Patrick Henry was born in Studley, Hanover Co., Virginia, in 1736. His
parents were John Henry and Sarah Winston. John was born in Aberdeen,
Scotland in 1703/04. Patrick Henry did not have any brothers named
George, and his youngest sibling, Elizabeth, was born in 1749.

The site does not give details on the descendants of Patrick Henry's
father John's two brothers, who were apparently both named Patrick.
For you to be related to Patrick Henry, your ancestory George would
have to be the son of Patrick Henry's uncle Patrick. (Does that make
sense?)

If you don't want to do your entire family genealogy and just want to
prove/disprove the Patrick Henry connection, focusing on Patrick
Henry's uncles OR finding your George Henry's father, would be the
way to go. There is a descendancy society for Patrick Henry (website
here http://www.redhill.org/descendants.htm) and they might be able to
give you leads or information.

Interestingly, your ancestor Fountain Fisher Henry gave his name to
Fountain Hall (web page here http://www.fountainhall.com/history.htm),
which is now a bed and breakfast. Apparently Fountain Fisher Henry was
a land developer in Culpeper, Virginia. His own home, called the
Ludwig Residence, remains one of the historic homes in Culpeper
(website here: http://www.culpeperva.us/tourthehomes1.htm).

I hope this helps. If you find this comment sufficient to close your
question, let me know and I can re-post it as an answer. Or perhaps
someone else would like to run with this information.
