I need to convert 8mm tape to digital, in a format that will allow me
to burn it to DVD and view it on a Unix machine. I own the full Roxio
9 suite. I'm stuck on the proper format for viewing on Unix.

A- can it be done with Roxio 9? How?
B- if it can't be done with Roxio 9, what can I use? And what are the
steps for that particular program?

Thanks

Hello Knightwolfjk. The primary problem that you have is that 8mm is
analog and you need to convert it to digital. This requires more than
software. You need
a piece of hardware called an analog to digital converter.

Many digital cameras have these built in (my canon zr45 does) so if
you own one or have a friend who has a digital camera ask him/her if
their camera has that funcionality. If not, there are a couple of
stand alone converters which I've listed below. These links go to
Bizrate which will get you the best price for them.

or

Dazzle Dv Bridge

These are pretty easy to use and should come with instructions.
