I am searching for a database of auto dealers in the United States. 
It needs to be in a format that I can perform data searches on and
manipulate the data.  For example, an Access database or an XML file. 
An answer of "Hey, go to cars.com, you can search for dealerships
there!"  is NOT an acceptable answer :)

It must have at least the following data:
Name of Dealership, Address, City, State, Zip, Phone #

In addition, would be extremely helpful to have the make of the cars
sold for each dealer.

Also, is there a way to get this on the cheap?  Working with a limited
budget here.  Under $50 would be ideal.  Free would be even better..

There's got to be something out there.  There are hundreds (if not
thousands) of various auto web sites out there with dealership
searches.  How did they get the data?

Your best shot would probably be contacting the various state
Automobile Dealer Associations about their membership.  I can provide
you with the contact information for the ADA of each state (except
Alaska) as well as for some of the Canadian provinces.

Tar_heel, thanks for the info but I'd only do that as a last resort. 
A very last resort.  I don't want to have to deal with 50 different
associations, and see what (if any) data they are willing to provide.

asuresh, I plan on doing a dealer research survey.

Tell me exactly what comes in the excel file, how up to date the data
is, and I'll consider the offer.
