We want to embed a Flash movie into an email so we’d need:

Your answer You have to analyse the two options:
-	flash movie is embedded directly in the email (and some applications
see it as an attachment)
-	the movie is loaded from an external server when the user opens the
email.

1. percentage of users that can play a flash movie into their email
application.

Detailed analysis:

1.1. A general list of email applications and percentages
i.e.: application_name, application_version, percentage of people
using it, percentage of users with javascript and activeX disabled /
enabled.

For the percentage of users with javascript and activex disabled /
enabled, keep in mind the antivirus software that can disable activeX
and javascript.

1.2. The same list for users in France.

Thank you very much.

thank you,
very interesting indeed.
my question regards specifically the email applications. for instance
in Outlook Express users can choose Restricted Sites Zone in the
security tab, disabling the plugins to play in the email.
I need to know the percentage of persons that could play Flash in
their email application.

I think that you'll find this very difficult to guesstimate. You'll
find from other answers that it's difficult to guess even how many
people have access to HTML-enabled mail. Within corporations,
security features may block any active files at the firewall.

We researchers are on many web pages each week. Often you'll find
authors who note that their company allows NO attachments to come
through -- not even JPG files.
