Dear jimbaen The Russian for "take off", when you're speaking to one person, is "snimai", prononouned "snee-MY". "Hat" is "shlyapa". "Olga, take off your hat" is pronounced: "Olga, snee-MY SHLYAP-oo." The Russian for clothes is "odezhda". "Take off your clothes" is pronounced: "snee-MY o-DYEZH-doo." "Underwear" is "bel'e", pronounced "bel-YAW", and "everything" is "vse", pronounced "vs-YAW". More simply, the Russian for "get undressed" is "razdevais", pronounced "raz-di-VICE". BTW, there's a page of clothing vocabulary at Russian Vocabulary List No. 7: http://www.departments.bucknell.edu/russian/ru201/vocab/clothes.html but you would need to learn about the Russian alphabet to be able to read it. There's a helpful pronunciation guide at Bucknell Russian Studies Department: http://www.departments.bucknell.edu/russian/language/pronounc.html Thanks for your question, which I enjoyed answering. I hope your fiancee enjoys hearing the answer!! Kind regards blackbird-ga Search strategy: personal knowledge Google search on some Russian words for clothes |

Jimbaen-ga-- Here are two fun things that would fit your theme. . .that I was taught to say a while ago: 1. Ha-ROSH-eye-ya ZHOHP-ah. "Fine piece of ass." You should probably pronounce the "Ha" with a little clearing-of-your throat sound. . . like in "chutspah." 2. Yah Ha-CHOO Gahv-a-REETS, noh ya knee mah-GOO. ("I wish I could speak Russian, but I can't.") I can also say "Last night I was pensive and today I threw myself into despair," but it does tend to be a conversation stopper. |
