Hello.

Here are the European countries that offically supported the US-led
war on Iraq as part of what the US called "The Coalition for Immediate
Disarmament of Iraq":

Albania
Czech Republic
Denmark
Estonia
Georgia
Hungary
Iceland
Italy
Latvia
Lithuania
Macedonia
Netherlands
Poland
Romania
Slovakia
Spain
United Kingdom

Note:
I have identified the "European" countries on the State Department
list using the traditional definition of "Europe" (i.e., the land mass
west of the Ural Mountains). Iceland & the United Kingdom are island
nations, of course, but they are traditionally classified with Europe.

I hope this helps.

I should note that the level of "support" varied considerably within
each of the several dozen countries that US State Department claimed
as part of its "coalition." Undoubtedly, there were elements
(official & unofficial) within every country that opposed the Iraq
war.

The list presented simply identifies the countries that the U.S. State
Department claimed as members of "The Coalition for Immediate
Disarmament of Iraq." The presence of a country on the list does not
necessarily mean that majority support for the Iraq war existed in
that country on the part of that country's citizenry and/or elected
officials.

Just to expand on Jugglers answer I think it is well worth reading the
question and answer session which is recorded on the URL he has has
supplied (after the inital summarisation paragraphs) - it certainly
puts the word 'support' in context !

The journalists answering the questions attempted to get the State
Department official to detail what each country was offering in the
way of 'support' but in the main he is unwilling to provide details -
this leads to some tragi/humourous exchanges.

This is not intended as a negative comment on Jugglers good answer - I
just feel it's worth mentioning.

That link seems out of date. Portugal is missing, along with Bulgaria
and Turkey (yes, it's partially in Europe).

Okay, add Portugal and Bulgaria to the list. Thank you, Nelson, for
looking for a later list.

While it's true that some of Turkey is in Europe, 97% of it isn't.
However, there is a pretty large population in that 3% of Turkey that
is in Europe, sf krvaught wishes to include it in his list, he's
certainly welcome to do so.

To clarify southof40-ga's comment, and in the hope of not getting my
own comment deleted for alleged impropriety, I would say that the list
the US State Dept uses is that of those countries whose governments
have expressed support. It doesn't imply that they are giving any
(though perhaps most are to one degree or another), nor that there is
majority opinion in either the national legislature or amongst the
populace. Countries like Britain were split 50-50 more or less in
popular support, and faced a crucial vote in parliament that could
have swung against the government. Other countries such as Spain and
Turkey had a massive popular majority against the war (something like
90% IIRC).

Again, please read no negativity in to my comment
