Hi joef,

Can you clarify where you are finding the file extension .rbn files.

I researched your question and all I came up with were a few
references to Real Sound file. And that led me to
RealPlayer/RealOnePlayer. Is this where you are finding those files?
 Thanks,

tlspiegel

Hi joef,

Thank you for your response.

I'm using WindowsMediaPlayer and the files will not play. I don't
have RealPlayer so cannot speak for whether they'll play with
RealOnePlayer.

I've checked out the Joe Frank website, and tried to download and play
some of the files. They downloaded, but will not play. I am using
WinMediaPlayer, and am not sure about RealPlayer.

From the Joefrank.com FAQs
http://www.joefrank.com/faq.html

"What new works will be on the site in the future?
Here's a little of what we're working on: descriptions of each show,
including production dates, cast members and music; full archive of
all shows streamed online (for a nominal subscription); high quality
MP3s downloads, new and never-before-seen or aired shows Joe's been
working on, plus more. Stay tuned. (We are a very tiny staff, so
thanks in advance for your patience.)

Can I stream shows on my web site?
We encourage you to come to this site to access Joe's programs. For
over ten years, Joe has been able to allow fans to stream his shows on
their web sites and produce MP3s offering them as a free download.
Unfortunately, this practice is now inimical to his ability to move
forward. Joe can no longer afford to give his work away while
continuing to pay actors, creative collaborators, mixing studios,
technicians, etc., for new projects.

In order to raise money for this new work, we must ask you and others
to remove Joe's shows from your web sites and instead encourage people
interested in his programs to come to his site.

With your support, Joe will be able to offer new programs as well as
projects which have never before been available - short videos, films,
transcripts and high quality MP3s. Additionally, we will be able to
stream every radio program Joe's produced. Any suggestions you have
for ways in which the site may be improved, or hopes concerning work
you'd like to see posted, are welcomed.

We would very much appreciate your cooperation, and thanks for your
support over the years."

[edit]

"Do you have a list of the music featured on the shows?
Unfortunately, we do not currently have a list of music credits for
specific shows. However, we are in the process of compiling music and
cast credits along with short descriptions for each show.

Here is a web site that lists the music selections used in some of
Joe's shows: Joe Frank Music

Where can I find titles of shows aired on radio stations?
Although we furnish radio stations with CDs of the programs, we are
not involved in scheduling. If you've recently heard a program and
would like to find out the title, contact the radio station. A lot of
them will have a schedule or playlist on their web sites."

From the Joefrank.com sales page: (ways to purchase cd's)
http://www.joefrank.com/sales.html

"Sales
The CDs of these programs are mastered from the original tapes created
for broadcast.

"Remixed" shows are those which Joe reproduced using material from
other shows to create a new program, or revised by editing out or
adding new material. (We send the remixed version unless you
specifically request the original version.)

Let us know what you are ordering and we'll send you a confirmation
email with the total amount due. We usually ship within 2 weeks of
payment, however, please allow 3 to 4 weeks for delivery.

These are all 60-minute programs with a few 30-minute programs at the
bottom of the page."

Perhaps another researcher will have better luck.

Best regards,
tlspiegel

joef...

The links on Joe's website are of the nature:
rtsp://rx-lvl3-tex03.rbn.com/farm/*/encoder/livecon/channel/g2demand/jcrw/jf_show_4.rm

As you can see, the 'rbn' portion of the link refers to the website
which is serving the material. The actual file format is .rm, which
is a standard 'Real' format. Also, these links are in a 'streaming'
format, which means the material is 'streamed' to your browser, and
can be opened with the RealOne Player, however, being as they are
streamed, they cannot be downloaded and, thereafter, converted to
another format, such as wav or mp3.

Since tlspiegel-ga's excerpts make it clear that Joe is trying
to make a little money in order to maintain the ability to
make his materials available, it makes sense for him to use a
format which prevents downloading, copying and reproducing his
materials.
