Over the past few weeks I have been building a lot of new pages for my
website www.vinylconnections.co.uk.
Several of these pages,for example
http://www.vinylconnections.co.uk/sdd.htm don't seem to get spidered
at all by Google.

I know that http://www.vinylconnections.co.uk/jazznew1.htm
was spidered and a cashed version was available on Google on Saturday,
25 of October 2003.

During construction over the previous week the content had changed
frequently, sometimes several times a day as I kept uploading
different versions of the page to my server during the page
construction period.

I tried to keep track of my progress by periodically testing Google to
see if Google could find any or all of the catalogued items on the
page.
Yesterday evening (Saturday, 25 of October 2003) Google returned
matches on nearly all of the catalogue entries.

Unfortunately I had already updated the page with one which had
slightly different tags - (Only minor changes were made to the
actual
content) The following day Google seems completely unable to find the
page or any of the content of this page whatsoever.

Is there any chance you could find the link to any of the cashed
pages of
http://www.vinylconnections.co.uk/jazznew1.htm
which I saw on Google on Saturday, 25 of October 2003 ?

Hi Rolg1 ~

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but at the moment I can't find
your page, http://www.vinylconnections.co.uk/jazznew1.htm , listed on
any of Google's data centers, which explains why there is no cache for
the page, either.

I also checked All The Web to see if it was cached there, and it is
not listed among the internal links on your site:

That isn't to say a cache won't be available later, but I wouldn't
count on it. What you may have experienced in the crawl that has been
observed by others and discussed on Webmaster World -
   - http://www.webmasterworld.com/forum3/

For what it's worth, I notice you have a PageRank of 0/10 for
jazznew1.htm, which could also be why neither that page nor a cache
shows. Google usually returns pages with a PageRank of 4 or greater in
its search engine results.

It is also possible you are now seeing the results of the last crawl,
since jazznew1.htm has a PR of 0; and with no external links to the
page listed, it isn't unusual for it NOT to be listed on Google.

In summary, the answer your question, "Is there any chance you could
find the link to any of the cashed [sic] pages of
http://www.vinylconnections.co.uk/jazznew1.htm which I saw on Google
on Saturday, 25 of October 2003?" is unfortunately no. If it's not
there, it probably will not be in the future.

Some Google Links For Your Reference

I'm sure you are already aware of these, but I am including some
important links from Google's Webmaster Information and Webmaster
Guidelines. It helps to be familiar with Google's recommendations that
are contained in these pages. Webmasters who follow the guidelines and
avoid Google's "Thou shalt nots" usually have no problem and can
achieve a decent PageRank for their pages.

Hi Serenata,

WITH HINDSIGHT - I KNOW SHOULD HAVE SAVED THE HTML OF THE CACHED PAGE
WHICH WAS EXISTED TWO DAYS AGO - THEN I WOULD HAVE KNOWN WHICH VERSION
GOOGLE LIKES.

RE: this part of your answer:

"It is also possible you are now seeing the results of the last crawl,
since jazznew1.htm has a PR of 0; and with no external links to the
page listed, it isn't unusual for it NOT to be listed on Google."

Are you saying:

The reason for the page's rating to have gone DOWN below 4/10 (or 0 in
this case)must have someting to do with changes I have made to it's
meta tags, keywords or text content?

Are you able to evaluate my guess which is: A previous version of
"www.vinylconnections.co.uk/jazznew1.htm" which I had uploaded during
previous weeks must have been spidered and received good ratings -
because on Saturday 25th October I had tested a variety of text
strings from the page and Google returned the page with most of them.

(Did you actually CHECK the page in question ON MY WEBSITE ? - It is
accessible!)

Hi again Rolg1 ~

You asked, "The reason for the page's rating to have gone DOWN below
4/10 (or 0 in this case) must have someting to do with changes I have
made to it's meta tags, keywords or text content?"

Since I am unable to check the page's cache, I have no idea what your
PageRank may have been two days ago. If you are on a Windows OS and
use Internet Explorer, you can download Google's toolbar at
http://toolbar.google.com ... that will allow you to see your
PageRank.

I did indeed look at the page, I wouldn't presume to try to pinpoint
any problems without doing so.

Instead of searching for any particular terms on your page, I entered
the page itself in the search box. If the page WAS in Google's index,
it would show up by searching for
"www.vinylconnections.co.uk/jazznew1.htm" (with or without the
quotation marks).

The results I got was:

Sorry, no information is available for the URL
     www.vinylconnections.co.uk/jazznew1.htm

     * If the URL is valid, try visiting that web page by
       clicking on the following link:
       www.vinylconnections.co.uk/jazznew1.htm
    * Find web pages that contain the term
       "www.vinylconnections.co.uk/jazznew1.htm"
   - ://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=www.vinylconnections.co.uk%2Fjazznew1.htm&btnG=Google+Search

When I searched for just the domain, "www.vinylconnections.co.uk", it
was not listed in pages that link to yours or in pages that contain
the term "www.vinylconnections.co.uk" - it is safe to say that that it
is not in Google's index at this time.

There *is* a link indexed in your site called "jaz.auction1.htm",
which coincidentally has the same title metatag as the page you asked
about. However, you didn't ask about that page, so I didn't mention
it. You can find it here:

As for metatags, the only metatag that Google pays attention to is the
title tag. The other tags, keywords, descriptions, etc., are for the
most part ignored by the major search engines - so any changes to
those would not affect any page's search engine results in Google.

For the page you asked about, jazznew1.htm, if it was relatively new,
it is not unusual for it to show up in results, then disappear, then
show up when a crawl has ended.

That is explained in both Google's Webmaster Information and discussed
in detail on Webmaster World.

If you are talking about that other page I mentioned,
jaz.auction1.html ... then it is listed in Google's index.

At the moment, "jazznew1.htm" is not listed in Google's index. Why it
isn't there at the present time is unknown to me. I can find no
evidence that it was listed at all. If you want to ask Google (who are
the only ones who do know, although they may not tell you, either),
you can email them at help@google.com.

To reiterate ... there *is* a page at jaz.auction1.htm that is
indexed. That page has the same page title as jazznew1.htm, which is
not presently indexed. If jazznew1.htm was indexed, I cannot find it
in Google's index, nor can I find any links to it or any cached
version of that page. If you cannot find it by a direct search on the
page name, none of the CONTENT (which is what Google indexes) will
turn up in a search engine results placement on those terms, either.

The best we can do at present is wait and see if it shows up after the
next Google crawl.

Let me know if you have any other questions,

Serenata

Hi again,
Well I ha conitunued to wait an check periodically - one minute it was
there - the next minute it was not - this alternating disappearance
act has continued - at the moment this page and a few others, which I
had recently added can be found with google. What I still can't work
out is why the ratings indicator on the newish pages is 0, when these
pages ie.http://www.vinylconnections.co.uk/jazznew1.htm are almost
identical to my better rated pages some of which have been on Google
for years.

Hi Rolg1~

Remember that it can take up to eight weeks or longer for a page to
get listed in all of Google's data centers.

It will help to have links directly TO that page from relevant sites
with a PageRank of 4 or better. Obviously there are changes going on
in search engines' algorithms as they work hard to deliver the "best"
results for a searcher's queries.

Those pages that seem to manage to survive all these 'blips' are those
that have good HTML, good content and PageRank based on the number of
sites which link TO them. At this point, I would work on establishing
links TO that page, and the rest of your site in order to increase
PageRank, which can certainly help at this time.

Good luck!
Serenata
