I have a 6' tall Powerine gas pump, round cylindrical with a glass
top. The hose is dried out a bit with slight cracking, there's a
small crack in the glass and the red paint is faded from age. It was
a gift over 30 years ago, received minus the globe on top. We'd like
to get it out of storage, but have no way to value it or set a price
for resale. I cannot find Powerine Oil information as they
discontinued operations in 1996. And I have no recent photos of the
pump which is in storage (and will cost me to pull out). Any tips on
how to best value something like this and/or find Powerine decals/etc.
to restore it? I have an interested buyer. Thanks.

Hi Missp ~

I found some information on Powerine on the Old Gas website:

"Powerine Oil Company, formerly Rothchild Oil Company,
Began in the oil fields of Santa Fe Springs, Ca. around
1935. Powerine operated with a capacity of just under
50,000 barrels per day until 1984, when Harry Rothchild
decalared bancruptcy and closed the refinery. In October
1986, Oscar Smidt,an Austrian investor bought Powerine
out of Bankruptcy and continued to operate until June
of 1996. The refinery has recently been purchased by
Cenco Petroleum, Inc. and rumors tie Pat Robertson, the
      evangelist, to the refinery."

"Thats right about Powerine except for the Castle energy,
Kenyan, and Haddap ownership in between. I am also an
ex employee. Trying to stay in touch There seems to be
another Powerine in Colorado at one time. And maybe some
confusion with a Powerline Co. Powerine in CA is now CENCO
      Oil."

And some photos of Powerine sign on a Purdue website here:

You might want to visit the Classified section of Old Gas for some
ideas on prices for the Powerine gas pump you have.

In addition, Game Room Antiques has some authentic gas pumps with
prices, which you can use for comparison:

and also on a site called "Gas Pumps & Parking Meters"

I suspect the Old Gas classifieds or the discussion board will be of
help to you in both replacing the globe and determining a price for
it.

What interesting reading this is!

Thanks so much ... shame that Powerine info and/or parts seems so
scarce, particularly for restoration purposes. But these are some
good links to start with and the history is helpful.
