is attributed to Irish playwright George Bernard-Shaw in of his work,
"Man and Superman".

The thought is probably not original with Shaw, however.

Note the quote is "The LACK of money is the root of all evil".  Shaw
is making a pun from the original quote that most people know as
"Money is the root of all evil"

In fact "Money is the root of all evil" is itself a misquote. The
proper form is "The LOVE of money is the root of all evil" (from the
Bible, The First Epistle of Paul the Apostle to Timothy, Chapter 6,
Verse 10).
