What are the age, income, and gender demographics for US motorists
(non-commericial)?  I promise a tip if someone can tell me
demographics by state.

I have located the latest available data which represents 2001, that
was published in November 2002. It does not include incomes but ALL
the other information you asked for, including the age, gender and
state breakdowns are present.

Is this acceptable?

The latest freely obtainable information appears to be this document
released by the US Department of Transportation in November 2002. The
DOT itself says “This page contains the latest available data…” :

AGE GROUP AND RELATION TO POPULATION

The URL link is correct but the title I quoted was from an older
document I had found earlier and just failed to correct before
posting. This is indeed a 2001 document as promised. I apologize for
