I just installed the new version of ICQ Pro, 2003b. Having been an ICQ
user for several years, I was surprised to see that three major
features had been eliminated:

1) The photo feature within User Details.
2) Email integration with Outlook Express that enabled notifications
of new messages recd in the latter.
3) The ability to send email to another user from within ICQ.

I have searched throughout user preferences and find no mention of
these previous features. Am I looking in the wrong place and, if so,
where are those features now? www.icq.com contains no write-up of
changes made in 2003b.

All you have to do is make a simple adjustment. Klick the "Main"
button in your ICQ panel. Then select "To advanced mode" and a button
"Services" will appear. There (under the button "services") you will
find all the missing features you described in your question.

I hope that this helps to solve the problem.

As an ICQ user I knew the solution without a web research.

Clicking the Main button does NOT reveal a "to advanced mode" menu
option. Did you download and install 2003b before offering this
solution?

I´m sorry, I made a mistake. I confused versions 2003a with 2003b and
thought I had the most recent ICQ version running.
The features you are missing have really been removed. Trying for
about 2 hours now with the new version 2003b and carefully searching
the icq.com page I could not find why these features have been removed
or how they could be restored.
Even in the google groups (where usually you´ll find the latest infos)
)
there are no hints about the removal of the features.
What you could do if you need those features is go back to version
2003a.
I´ve tried the "downgrade" from the b to the a version and it worked
without a problem on a Windows 2000 profesional system.
Sorry that it´s not possible to provide a more satisfying answer and
sorry for the mistake in my first answer.

Thanks, but exactly how did you go about reverting to the "a" version?
I don't see it on www.icq.com as a downloadable alternative.

I had the older version still on my computer.
Please got to
to get the ICQ pro2003a - version from our fast web-server.
Please rename the downloaded file (only the file extension needs to be
changed to .exe), for webserver security reasons I had to name the
file icqpro2003a.old

Please post a comment or another clarification request after the
download and setup so I can delete it from our server.

Thanks. I downloaded that file and now have it sitting on my desktop,
still trying to decide whether to revert to "a" or stay a little
longer with "b."

Allright. Sorry that there was no better answer.

I decided to uninstall 2003b, but when I tried to execute the 2003a
file you provided, after renaming the extension as .exe, it failed. Do
you know why this might have happened?

Clarification of Answer by till-ga on 30 Oct 2003 00:32 PST
I tried the procedure (including the download) step by step and it
worked perfectly.
Are you sure you did not make a mistake when renaming ?
The file name must be
icqpro2003a.exe
In case the file name is correct try to download the program again
form the given location. Maybe there was a problem with the download.

Many thanks. I had hoped for a different answer, but unfortunately
such an answer simply doesn't exist.
