There are 137 convents and monasteries listed in and around Hudson, New York, many of which are certainly Roman Catholic, but the list does not break them down into the various faiths: SWITCHBOARD.COM http://www.switchboard.com/bin/cgidir.dll?MEM=1&PR=108&cid=2067&LNK=53%3A2&QV=02EE8CA033D63A3FE1CF3203O01FACE5BBD86AA3F8BCF3203O03F72C3D0485AA3F96CF3203&C=Convents+%26+Monasteries&L=&A=&T=hudson&S=ny&ST=2&SAS=0&Search.x=37&Search.y=12 Please let me know if this is an acceptable answser to your question. Hi Theodora, I suppose you already know that Theodora means Gift of God, right? Beautiful name. Im sorry I cant give you a list of convents or monasteries in or near Hudson. There is one seminary, St. Josephs, which is located in Yonkers, NY and has several branch locations, one of which is in Poughkeepsie, which is just south of Hudson. However, as you may know, part of the religious life is often seclusion from the world, and so its not always easy to find monasteries or convents, as those who live there would rather not be disturbed, and so dont often have websites or advertise their whereabouts. As Tutuzdad-ga has said, probably the Switchboard.com list includes Roman Catholic facilities, but youd probably have to call them one by one to know. However, Hudson is in Columbia County, NY, part of the Diocese of Albany, and the Archdiocese of New York. Id suggest trying a local parish priest at St. Marys in Hudson first. It is located at 429 East Allen St. Hudson, NY 12534, Phone (518) 828-1334. Just for example, there is a convent connected to the parish school, where the sisters live who teach in the school, but they dont have an online presence. If you cant get any information at St. Marys, you might try contacting someone at the Albany Diocese, here: http://www.rcda.org or the Archdiocese of New York, here: http://www.ny-archdiocese.org/ If your reason for asking is that youre interested in possibly pursuing a vocation to the religious life, heres another resource you might try, the National Vocation Religious Conference, here: http://www.nrvc.net/ Best of luck. Im sorry I couldnt find the list you were hoping for. Perhaps another Researcher will be able to help you, or hopefully one of the above links might send you in the right direction. Regards, Byrd |

Hello theodora, I've also struck out in finding anything for you. I do agree with byrd-ga that there may be very little web presence due to their cloistered lifestyle. We have a monastery in the vicinity but I doubt you'd know it's there unless you knew Catholics in the area. It's very word-of-mouth. You might try contacting Sacred Heart and discussing your needs with them directly. Sacred Heart/Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Shrine 442 Fairview Ave., Hudson, NY 12534 (518) 828-8775 Since many of these groups are very 'old school, I also tried the additional search terms: Priestly Fraternity of St. Peter Tridentine Mass Sedevacantists Norvus ordo missae Good luck to you and sorry we couldn't be of more help.
