I have an internet site translated into Japanese, however, I haven't
been able to figure out how to get it listed on Japanese search
engines. At best I've been able to get it listed on Japanese versions
of Google and Yahoo which really only are English pages geared toward
the Japanese market. I need instructions that are more than just a
simple listing of Japanese search engines and links to submission
pages that are written in a language I don't understand.
The page I am trying to get listed is
http://www.absoluteparadise.tv/japanese.htm

Are you willing to pay for this service? I found a site that submits
your web page to more than a hundred Japanese search engines for
something like U$ 100

Thanks for the suggestion for a place willing to provide a service for
$100. I have tried those places for English sites and found they
advertise far more than they can deliver. All these search engines
they talk about usually tend to be bogus when you look them up. So,
I'm not willing to pay to have a service do it.

Thanks for the suggestion to have a college student. I had a Japanese
college student do the translation. Unfortunately the one I used
didn't have the time to do site submission.

I have tried using Babel fish and the site submission form on the
Japanese engines already. It didn't work. What I have been really
hoping for is a website where someone has mirrored the submission
pages into English so I can see what needs to be filled into each box.
Or alternately they wrote a script that does the submission and
provide instructions in English and boxes for me to fill in the
Japanese responses.

As someone who used to work in a line of business that required me to
learn a lot about Japanese market trends and resources for digging
into the Japanese labor market, I found that using bi-lingual local
college students (i.e. native Japanese speakers studying in the
states) is the best resource. Not only are they saavy about the
Internet and what the major Japanese portals are, but they will do
simple jobs like this one for a small fee (we paid them between
$10-$15/hour). We used local college newspapers and flyers to recruit.
Of course, this depends on your location. I hope this helps.

Hello pbmaise,

Great question! I spent a few years in Japan as a U.S. Marine - great
country. Now to answer your question -

Here is the best way to do what you are asking without having to learn
Japanese, buy translation software, or get someone to read it the
pages.

1) Open one browser window with the Altavista BabelFish. This is an
online program that converts pages instantly from one language to
another that you designate. It can be found here:

http://babelfish.altavista.com/

2) In another browser - go to Google and enter a search for 'popular
japanese search engines'. I found one page to get you started, that
lists plenty of engines:

http://www.high-search-engine-ranking.com/List_of_Regional_Search_Engines.htm#Most%20Popular%20Japanese%20Search%20Engines

3) In the Altavista Babel-Fish control page - enter a page you wish to
get translated in the part where it says "Web page - Enter the Web
address of the page you wish to translate". Then in the "Translate
from" select box, choose Japanese to English. I started with
http://odin.ingrid.org/

4) Now you can navigate the whole site via this translation...i.e.
every link you click on will be translated into english as long as you
stay in the BableFish frame.

As I stated, I used http://odin.ingrid.org/ to start with. Down at the
bottom of the translated page you find a link that says:

URL register application

Upon clicking on that link you will see, in english, the instructions
on how to submit your URL for inclusion in the search engine index.

Now simply repeat this process for all the engines you want to submit
to.

This is not the best method, but it costs you nothing :-)

I hope it helps -
