Aaron Sorkin wrote all the episodes of The West Wing from its first
season until the end of the 2002-03 season. Other people are writing
this season, and while the series is still good, it's not the same.
Why did Aaron Sorkin stop writing it? Is he working on another project
now?

Hi! Thanks for the question.

According to news reports it seems that Aaron Sorkin left the West
Wing because of disagreements with the studios plans for budget cuts
and production delays. Both camps however did not confirm this report.

“There was no word from NBC, Warner Bros. Television, which produces
the show, or Sorkin on the reason for his departure, but the
Associated Press said there have been reports of tension between
Sorkin and Warner Bros. over budgets and production delays.”

“There had been reports of tension between Sorkin and the studio that
produces the show, Warner Bros. Television. He had reportedly been
cautioned about budgets and production delays.”

“Schlamme and Sorkin said they will pursue other film, television and
theater projects. They will remain "the two biggest fans of `The West
Wing,"' according to their statement.”

In one website, it mentions that Sorkin had an interview in the
Charlie Rose show and confirmed this report. The website also mentions
that Sorkin is currently writing a television sports spoof show.

“It turns out that Sorkin is leaving The West Wing for purely greedy
financial reasons of the studios behind the show, which is making
money but they want it to make more, so are cutting its budget. Sorkin
wasn't willing to put up with that and left and so we will likely lose
(or at least greatly diminish) what is probably the best show on
television. Apparently he is going to be working on a Sports Night
like show, but based on a Saturday Night Live show rather than ESPN.”
