To be a preschool director in a state-licensed preschool in
California, these are the education requirements (note that ECE stands
for "Early Childhood Education") :
"CHILD CARE CENTER - PRESCHOOL
Staff Qualifications
DIRECTOR
15 units and 4 years experience or
AA degree in ECE and 2 years experience or
BA degree in ECE and 1 year experience or
Childrens Center Supervisor Permit and no experience

be a director of California preschool that is STATE-FUNDED.

Option 3: Teaching credential with 12 units of ECE, plus 3 units
supervised field experience in ECE setting, plus 6 units
administration; or
Option 4: Masters Degree in ECE or Child/Human Development; or
